Therapy
Therapy is a time dedicated for you to practise being with you. Through offering a contained place for sustained reflection, therapy offers the chance for you to unfold, make meaning and ultimately shifts in your life.
I see my role as a therapist as a supportive collaborator in the process of being with where you are in the story of your life. However you find yourself, I can meet you there through offering you a different type of listening to that which you might receive from friends, which reveals what otherwise can go unheard, unseen or unfelt.
Together, we can explore the patterns and themes that weave through your life narrative, alongside your dreams and potential.
My Approach
As an integrative therapist, I draw upon a range of approaches which consider different aspects of the human experience. I continue to integrate new ideas into my work on an ongoing basis - adapting my approach to the each client.
I am particularly influenced by:
Embodied practices: Our emotional history, alongside memories, and patterns can be understood to be embedded in our body, contributing to behaviours, choices and relationships. Through forging a deeper relationship with our body, connecting to ourselves on a deeper somatic level, it is possible to attune to and be led by the embodied wisdom of your body - supporting you to navigate through life more smoothly.
Attachment theory: I draw on how childhood experiences and early relationships may have shaped the way you relate to yourself as well as other people in your life, resulting in insecure attachment. You will be invited to get curious about the connection between your own relational history and your current patterns. Through the safety of our working relationship, you have a chance to “earn” secure attachment - supporting you to rewrite the past to have the type of relationships you may want in your life.
Relational: I believe reflecting on how we are together within the therapeutic relationship as it unfolds in the present is key to the work. We might reflect on this to support your growth outside of the therapy space.
I hold an awareness of the importance of differences which make up an individual - keeping in mind how class, sexual orientations, gender, neuro-diversity or race make up your experience.
I also welcome a creative approach to the work and encourage my clients to bring materials, such as poems, drawings, journals or dreams, which may support you to share your full experience.
